Q. can my loft be converted?

A. As long as there is 7 feet (2.1metres) approx from top of existing ceiling joists to ridge line(apex) for a Velux/roofline conversion and 8 feet (2.4metres) for a dormer conversion. Concept may still have the answer should you not. Have a look at our ceiling lowering option.

Q. Can you convert modern trussed rafter lofts?

A. Yes over 50% of our conversions have trussed roofs.

Q. How long will does it take?

A. Each loft is individual but there is good guide in our process and timescale section.

Q. How much will it cost?

A. Each project is individual so although our project designers free visit is the best way of getting an exact cost we have set up an instant online quote system to give you a good guide.

Q. Do we need our own plans drawn up?

A. No we have our own architect who will deal with the drawings and planning approval.

Q. Will a loft conversion add value to my house?

A. Yes the Nationwide building society report that loft conversions give the best return for the money spent of all home improvements carried out.

Q. Do I need planning permission?

A. Most loft conversions do not require planning permission as they will usually come under permitted development you will require building regulations approval. Our project designer will go through this during your free consultation visit. We also have a full section on planning.

Q. Are Concept experienced loft converters?

A. We have 25 years experience in the building and have specialized in lofts for 15 years.

Q. Are Concept a national or local company?

A. We carry out conversions in the Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Cheshire only as we have found this ensures we deliver quality projects at very competitive prices. Please read our concept projects about us page to see more on why.

Q. Are you insured?

A. We have full public liability insurance and our work is guaranteed.

Q. Is the work supervised?

A. Yes our Director oversees each loft conversion either through the project manager or directly to the construction team leader on a daily basis.

Q. Can we view your work?

A. Yes we like to show off. When you have received the design and price you like, we will arrange for you to view a completed conversion.

Q. Do I get drawings?

A. Your project designer in conjunction with you and your requirements comes up with the design for your loft. Our architect will then complete the drawings and structural calculations required. You are given a copy of them to approve we then send these on to your local council.

Q. Who leases with the relevant governing bodies?

A. We do that on your behalf.

Q. Are there different types of loft conversion?

A. yes please our loft options page.

Q. I have water tanks in my loft what happens to them?

A. In some cases they can be moved to a more suitable area or our gas safe plumber can install a new pressurized boiler.eg combi boiler.

Q. Do all doors in the house need changing to fire doors?

A. Doors that lead to habitable rooms need to conform to the fire regulation set by your local athourity. This is covered further in our building regulation section.

Q. What about plumbing and electrics?

A. We will discuss your requirements with you. They will be included in the price and carried out by qualified tradesmen with any required certificates supplied.

Q. We do not think the is anywhere for our stairs?

A. This is always an important part of our design and we enjoy working out ways of making stairs fit yet not look out of place. Challenge us.

Q. I don’t think I could stand the mess and upheaval?

A. Yes there is, I won’t lie.( bet u can’t believe i just said that) Concept have have put systems in place over the years that keep this to a bear minimum our teams are very conscious that they are in peoples homes. Each team comes equipped with dust sheets and a hoover. Lots of our clients have told us how worried they been about this and that they were pleasantly surprised by how clean the team kept it.

Q. Do we need to move out?

A. No this it not needed.

Q. Our budget is quite tight and we think we can do some of work our self?

A. We can adapt designs to suit most budgets. If your handy have a look at our part build option.
